Free tools
Canada charges 5% federal GST, and the total sales tax rate runs from 5% in Alberta to 15% in New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland and Labrador. These free tools do that math for all 13 provinces and territories.
The tools
TheBomb® tax tools are free Canadian sales tax calculators that show their work. They cover every province and territory, apply the 5% federal GST plus whatever that jurisdiction adds on top, and break the answer into the federal portion, the provincial portion, and the total.
Every rate the tools use comes from one file that we check against the Canada Revenue Agency and the provincial tax authorities, then date-stamp. Rates are not typed into individual pages, so when a province moves its rate, the calculators and the table below move with it.
Nothing is hidden behind a signup, nothing is emailed to you, and every number on the page is in the HTML before any script runs. Rates verified July 2026.

Quick answers
GST in Canada is 5%. The federal Goods and Services Tax applies in every province and territory. In the five HST provinces the 5% federal portion is folded into one harmonized rate instead of being billed on its own line.
Alberta, Yukon, the Northwest Territories and Nunavut have the lowest sales tax in Canada at 5%, because they charge GST only and add no provincial sales tax. New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland and Labrador have the highest at 15% HST.
To calculate GST from a tax-included total, divide the total by 1 plus the combined tax rate, then apply each rate to the base. A $112.00 total in British Columbia divided by 1.12 gives a $100.00 base, $5.00 GST and $7.00 PST. The reverse GST calculator does that for every province and territory.
Yes. British Columbia charges 7% PST on top of 5% GST, which is 12% in total. BC PST is calculated on the pre-tax price rather than on the GST, so the two taxes do not compound on each other.
Yes. The tools cover all 13 provinces and territories: the five HST provinces, the four GST-only jurisdictions, and the four that charge GST plus a separate provincial tax (BC PST, Saskatchewan PST, Manitoba RST, and Quebec QST).
Yes. Every tool on this page is free, with no signup, no account, and no cap on how many calculations you run. TheBomb® publishes them as reference tools for Canadian businesses.
